THE STORY 2

BY PRAISE UMORU

After Irene’s visit to the decreased crew, their journey to Sanji stream was fixed for the next day in order to get the quad fully involved and prepared. Tayo was to tag along also. Being that the journey to Sanji’s stream was on an impromptu notice, Tony and Eli couldn’t make the travel regardless of how much they wanted to. Tony had to attend a family thanksgiving in church with his mum and Elizabeth was invited.

To Elizabeth, it wasn’t just the fact that she was invited to the thanksgiving by Tony’s mum that made it so important, but it was the fact that the mother of the man she loved considered her as family already in order to invite her and that made the thanksgiving one she wouldn’t choose to miss.

More so, with Tony, Eli, Alex, Malia and Jeremy, out of the scene, Tim and Quinn are left to go on the field Survey with Tayo and Mrs. Irene.

(Tony and Eli)

After the service was over, the exhaustion was boldly seen on the faces of each member, but every exhaustion was accompanied with a smile. As most people sat to reinforce their energy, some others went from seat to seat chattering about the success of the thanksgiving. Laughter sprung out from every corner and Tony and Eli’s corner wasn’t left out of it.

The two lovers were part of the people that sat down to reinforce their strength. They chattered and made various banter towards themselves about the thanksgiving…

Tony couldn’t help his laughter as it squeezed his eyes in the most innocent and beautiful way. Eli wasn’t any different, her stomach was in pain from all the laughter about her ridiculous dance steps and Tony’s singing disorder. They just couldn’t get enough of themselves as their laughter caught an eye

“A dollar to join the fun…”

Tony and Eli tore their gaze off each other towards the figure that was before them. Eli beamed the figure a smile as a sense of politeness and so did Tony after recognizing the figure before him

Tony recognized the man as one of the members of the church that gave his thanksgiving alone. The man seemed to be in his fifties. Tony assumed it was either his family couldn’t make it to the thanksgiving or astonishingly, he didn’t have a family. Tony had noticed the man in church for over half a year or even more, he couldn’t clarify. Tony wasn’t the type to mingle unnecessarily with people unlike his mother, who was known and also a friend of all

Tony couldn’t think of a response to render to the man’s professed idiom. Instead he smiled again

The man gave a husky but lovely laugh “pardon my manners young man, my name is Henry Afolayan” the man said with a stretched hand hoping for a shake from Tony

Tony took Henry’s hand not to leave his elder hanging for too long

“I’m Tony Amare, nice to meet you sir” Tony addressed him formally and politely.

Tony had learnt to coordinate himself in a formal manner as his father would always usher him to “be a man” before he died. After his father died when he was just nineteen years of age, he had to start putting his father’s words to action, to be a man for his mother and hopefully for Elizabeth and fortunately, for the past eight years since his father died, he was thankful he was meeting up with his father’s demand even if it was a work in progress to him.

“She is a beautiful lady” Mr. Henry whispered to Tony with a wink after referring his comment to Eli

Eli over hearing his whisper beamed another smile while rising up

“He is a lucky man” Mr. Henry whispered towards Eli rendering a handshake of her own

“You sure said that one right” Tony said softly with a smile

Mr. Henry gave another husky laugh “lucky me.”

Tony felt Mr. Henry’s gaze fell on someone before he spoke

“I wouldn’t want to pry any further” Mr. Henry smiled “I wouldn’t want to be the cause of a joyful surcease… I just couldn’t help but notice the joy and innocence between you two…”

“Oh no you aren’t sir” Eli cut him short

He once again gave his husky charming laugh “you are a wonderful lady my dear, but an old man like me needs to energize his body with a nap…with all the dancing I have done, (phew)” he traced down an imaginary sweat from his forehead “I might even go into hibernation”

The trio bursted into a nice laugh

“Okay then” Eli smiled once again towards the lovely man

“Well do have a nice nap, Mr. Afolayan but try not to go into hibernation. A healthy man like you needs his consistent meals” Tony stretched for a hand shake with his left hand supporting his right as a sign of respect

Mr. Henry was astonished at Tony’s sign of respect for him. He quickly took his hand shake “oh please, call me Henry”

He gave a goodbye smile and left the two…

After Mr. Henry’s departure, Tony was shocked at who they saw approaching

(Quinn and Tim)

Irene couldn’t make her journey to Sanji stream any longer as distressing news came to her about Jeremy’s indecisive attitude as he made a nuisance ordering for the attention of either his lawyer or a member of the Ambrose’s

Tayo, Timothy and Quinn were flown to the Sanji stream along with some heath personnels on a private jet.

The luxury engulfed Tim and even Quinn as her father’s riches could not be compare to that of the Ambrose. Mr. Chaka owned fleet of cars even a boat, but owning a private jet and thinking of its maintenance was something he wasn’t just there yet.

Tayo on the other hand wasn’t engulfed by the luxury but seemed to make the restroom his companion. It was obvious to Quinn and Tim he was air sick or probably acrophobic. Quinn assumed Irene didn’t have the knowledge of his fright neither did he tell her, else, she wouldn’t have forced him to tag along.

Immediately they landed, Tayo rushed down from the jet to feel the floor of the hanger. Quinn and Tim tried to suppress their laugh because it won’t be just rude and impolite but embarrassing. Many people have had such phobia due to a traumatic incident or just personal human fear, but which ever it was, they decided to act like they knew nothing

On the other hand, some of the health workers mocked and some mimicked him which triggered Quinn

“Would you all stop your childish behavior and stop mocking someone who is going through a hard time and attend to the work you came here for…?”

“And who is talking?” one of the health workers turned its gaze disgustedly towards Tim and Quinn. Although the figure was putting on PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), but she had laid down her mask which made it clear to see that she was a female.

“Quinn Chaka” Quinn responded boldly

The response Quinn got made her heart drop. The laughter and mockery that pursued her name made her wish the ground could open up and swallow her. Quinn looked at each health worker, her eyes strolled away from them and caught Timothy’s pitiful eyes. And just few meters behind him, she also caught Tayo’s. It seemed he had regained himself from his fright. Tayo tried to suppress his laughter but it escaped through a mocking smirk. Quinn’s heart threatened to explode in shame and embarrassment. Timothy saw her eyes wobble as her tears attempted to fall, he came closer to pull her away from the mockery but she darted away with a tear drop…
